W.O.C. in Supoort of Fr Roy

Thanks to "Womens Ordination Conference" for the following post.

On Friday April 8, over one hundred justice-seeking Catholics and activists gathered in solidarity outside the Vatican's Apostolic Nunciature in Washington, D.C. with Fr. Roy Bourgeois as he read aloud his letter to the Maryknoll leadership, refusing to recant his support of women's ordination.

The community offered their blessings and support as Fr. Roy spoke of the primacy and sacredness of one's own conscience: "It is my conscience that compels me to say publicly that the exclusion of women from the priesthood is a grave injustice against women, against our Church and against our God who calls both men and women to the priesthood." In just one week, over 6,000 people signed a petition in support of Fr. Roy, which representatives from the Women's Ordination Conference, Call To Action, RCWP, and Fr. Roy attempted to deliver to the door of the Nuncio. Though the secret service prevented this, a copy of the petition and statement of support from fifteen progressive Catholic organizations was sent to both the Embassy and the Maryknoll leadership. National Catholic Reporter covered the event.
